The Model Context Protocol (MCP) is an open standard that lets AI assistants use tools. BillsGPT’s MCP server gives your assistant a small set of bill-payment tools that act on your account only after you sign in and approve it.
You sign in on BillsGPT
The assistant opens a BillsGPT page. You sign in and allow it. It never sees your password or PIN.
Read-only until you say so
Paying is off for every new connection. Turn it on here with your PIN and choose per-payment and daily limits.
Every payment is a quote first
The assistant prepares a quote with the recipient, customer name and total. Nothing is paid until you approve it.
Connect your assistant.
Each assistant connects a little differently. All of them sign in through BillsGPT; none of them need an API key.
Claude
Expected to work · not yet tested by BillsGPTCustom connectors depend on your Claude plan; on Team and Enterprise an owner may need to allow them. Connectors you add on claude.ai also appear in Claude Desktop.

Add the BillsGPT server
- Open Settings → Connectors.
- Choose “Add custom connector”.
- Name it BillsGPT and paste the server URL below, then add it.

Select BillsGPT → Connect. A BillsGPT page opens: sign in with your BillsGPT app account and choose Allow.
Keep the minimum access
A new connection can only read and prepare quotes. Turn on payments above only if you want this assistant to pay, and set low limits.
Check the tools
In a chat, open the tools menu and check that BillsGPT and its tools are listed.
Try something read-only
Ask: “What is my BillsGPT wallet balance?” or “Show my last 5 BillsGPT transactions.”
Approve a payment safely
Ask: “Buy ₦200 MTN airtime for 08031234567.” The assistant shows a quote with the total. Check the number and amount, then approve; your assistant may also ask you to confirm the confirm_payment tool.
Disconnect
Settings → Connectors → BillsGPT → Remove, and disconnect it below.
Claude Code

- Add the server from your terminal:

Start Claude Code, run /mcp, select billsgpt and choose Authenticate. Your browser opens the BillsGPT sign-in; choose Allow.

Check the tools
Run `claude mcp list` or /mcp: billsgpt should show as connected with 12 tools.
Try something read-only

- Open Settings → Apps & Connectors → Advanced settings and turn on Developer mode.
- Create a connector: name it BillsGPT, paste the server URL, and choose OAuth authentication.

TestedTested with the official MCP Inspector. The client must support remote (Streamable HTTP) servers and OAuth 2.1; API keys are not accepted.

If something doesn’t work.
The sign-in page says my email is not verified
Verify your email in the BillsGPT app first, then connect again.
The assistant says payments are turned off
New connections are read-only. Sign in above and choose “Turn on payments” for that assistant, with your transaction PIN.
A payment is “pending”
The provider has not confirmed it yet. Do not pay again. Ask the assistant to check it with get_transaction_status, or look in your BillsGPT history. If it fails, your wallet is refunded.
“Sign-in expired” next to my assistant
Its tokens expired. Use the assistant’s reconnect or authenticate option and approve it again.
The assistant cannot add the server
Check that it supports remote MCP servers with OAuth, and that you pasted the full URL including /mcp/server. Some assistants only allow custom connectors on certain plans.
I think someone else connected my account
Disconnect every assistant above, change your password in the BillsGPT app, and contact support.
